Scholarship and Biography

Jane Hale studies the themes of literature and literacy as facilitators of cross-cultural understanding and personal empowerment. She inspires students to explore their own and others' individual and cultural backgrounds.

Jane has taught English as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chad, French to American farmers preparing to work in Africa, second grade in rural North Carolina, education in Lesotho, English to recent immigrants in Massachusetts. She has taught literature seminars to Boston-area immigration professionals, criminal offenders in Massachusetts, and judges in international courts.

Jane considers her continuing friendships with former students to be the greatest privilege of her professional life.
