Scholarship and Biography
Judith Tsipis Judith E. Tsipis received her undergraduate training at the University of Rochester and her graduate training at M.I.T. (Ph.D. in Biology 1971) and has been on the faculty of the Biology Department at Brandeis University since 1976. She also serves as the Director of the Master's Degree Program in Genetic Counseling at Brandeis, a program she helped found in 1992. The Brandeis Genetic Counseling Program is one of only 34 such programs in the country and was the first to start in New England.
Professor Tsipis is also the former Co-Chair of the Canavan Disease Screening Consortium, past VP for Education of National Tay Sachs and Allied Diseases Association and an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
Her involvement in the training of genetic counselors and the above organizations derives in great measure from her own experiences as the parent of a child with Canavan disease, a rare and progressive neurological genetic disorder.
