Scholarship and Biography
Romesh Ratnesar is a member of the editorial board of Bloomberg Opinion and a contributing editor at Washingtonian magazine. He previously served in the U.S. State Department as senior advisor and chief of staff to the Under Secretary for Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy. The former international editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, he spent more than a dozen years as an editor and correspondent at Time, serving as the magazine’s foreign editor and the magazine’s No. 2 editor. He has reported from numerous countries around the world, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian territories. The author of Tear Down This Wall: A City, a President and the Speech that Ended the Cold War, Ratnesar is a New America fellow and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
