Scholarship and Biography

Silvia Monteleone is a native of Genoa, Italy, where she graduated from the Università degli Studi with a Laurea in Lettere. She later obtained a Master’s degree in Italian at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Silvia Monteleone has experience in teaching language and literature courses at a range of skill levels. She is competent in language acquisition methodology and assessment. She received training in OPI testing and proficiency-based instruction and she uses a communicative approach in her classes, which are student-centered and task oriented. She co-authored an interactive software program in two parts – Pimsleur Italian IV and V, Comprehensive: Learn to Speak and Understand Italian – published respectively in 2013 and in 2015 with Simon and Shuster. These works integrate advanced grammar and complex vocabulary structures in a believable cultural context with an emphasis on learning to speak.
